Although nicads are still available in the USA, they are now difficult to obtain in Europe, only available as replacement battery packs for equipment previously using them, this does apply to RC applications 0of receiver and transmitter batteries.
Many nicads survive for 20 years or more, it is not uncommon at Overlander to be asked for a replacement Sanyo 600 AA nicad battery pack replacement that has been in use for 25 years or more, the more you use them the longer they last, storing batteries in a flat state of charege can be terminal, use or cycle your nicads and nimh regularly
